Balder The Brave

One of the Norse Gods of Asgard, Balder is a close friend of the Thunder God Thor, the Warriors Three and a loyal follower and son of Odin, ruler of the gods.
Balder has aided Thor against many of his foes, such as Skagg the Storm Giant and the fire demon Surtur when he warned Thor about them being released by Loki who planned for them to kill Odin after being told by Heimdall, Thor's adopted brother Loki, the Executioner and Enchantress, the Enchanters Three, the Wrecker, and Mangog. Balder is also briefly named ruler of Asgard during Thor's quest to find a then missing Odin.
Like the mythological version, the Marvel version of Balder is the catalyst that will trigger Ragnarök and end Asgard. To prevent this, Odin cast spells to keep Balder invulnerable. This almost happens when Loki had the blind god Hoder accidentally kill Balder with a mistletoe arrow, but is averted by the planning of Odin, who creates a shield around Balder's pyre, and later restores Balder to life when the Asgardians, after being slain in battle with the Celestials, were brought back to life by Thor using portions of energy donated by other Gods. On the second occasion, however, Balder is traumatized by the experience as he saw the souls of all those he had slain in battle and renounces killing.[9] Balder also has a love-hate relationship with Karnilla, the Queen of the Norns, who has aided both Loki and Asgard at times; on one occasion Karnilla forces Balder to renounce Odin and serve her, whilst on another she joins forces with Asgard against Surtur at Balder's request.Karnilla's lust for Balder inadvertently causes the death of Balder's love, Nanna - an act that Balder has never forgotten.Loki reveals Balder is the son of Odin and Frigga, and the half-brother of Thor, meaning he is then made a Prince of Asgard. When Thor is forced to kill his reborn grandfather Bor, Loki coerces Balder - now a royal prince - into exiling the Thunder God. Balder then assumes the throne of Asgard. When Loki has the Asgardians moved to Latveria, he is shown at a banquet held by Doctor Doom. Balder even asked that since the Asgardians are now in Latveria, why couldn't they invite Thor as well. Loki calmed Balder down to prevent Doctor Doom from reacting to the comment.Balder meets a diner owner named Bill (who fell in love with Kelda and followed her to Latveria) and gives him a cloak to keep warm.Balder later witnesses Bill's assault by Loki's henchmen, upon Bill having discovered the evil nature of Loki's scheme with Doctor Doom. After fending them off, Bill dies in Balder's arms having Balder tell Kelda that he loves her and telling Balder about Loki's plot. Balder and the other Asgardians retaliate even after Doctor Doom kills Kelda. Balder and the other Asgardians are forced to fight Endrik (who has been modified with technological implants) and many other mutilated Asgardians.Balder and the other Asgardians continued their fight with the mutilated Asgardians while Thor battled Doctor Doom.Balder kills the mutilated Asgardians in order to get to Kelda's heart. After Loki restores Kelda to life and Thor defeats Doctor Doom's Destroyer armor, Balder leads the Asgardians back to Broxton, Oklahoma. Back in Asgard, Balder is concerned over his foolishness over allowing what transpired in Latveria to happen. Loki assures him he is a fine king. After the Underworld is overthrown by Mikaboshi and Hela and Pluto are overwhelmed by his devastating forces, Balder calls for the Council to fight alongside him against the Chaos King, only for the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu to seal the throne room of the Celestial Axis, the latter claiming that if he went now, Mikaboshi would be able to trace him back to the Axis and subsequently invade all their realms, but promising that they will aid Hercules and Thor in their "own time". However, Mikaboshi breaks into the Celestial Axis after Hercules pierced the veil shielding it, and launches an assault on all of Earth's pantheons, seemingly decimating all of them with brutal ease and slaughtering many of the deities, although Balder is one of the survivors and later encounters Hercules.

Baron Zemo
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/6/5/12650473/551906775.jpg?132)
Dr. Heinrich Zemo, 12th Baron Zemo was one of the top scientists in the Nazi Party. Zemo fought both Captain America and his allies the Howling Commandos during World War II. A brilliant and sadistic scientific genius, Zemo created many weapons of mass destruction forHitler'sarmy, including a large-scale death ray cannon, a disintegration pistol that a miniaturized version of his death ray, and primitive androids of considerable strength and invulnerability. Heinrich Zemo's intelligence was only matched by his sadism, as he routinely tested his deadly weapons on innocent people, both prisoner and civilian inside the Third Reich. This ultimately came to a head, during an early encounter with the Howling Commandos, when Zemo decided to test an experimental death-ray cannon on a nearby German town. The death-ray killed hundreds of innocent German civilians as a result, making Zemo a mass murderer. Though he arrogantly believed that he could frame his act of mass murder on the Allied Forces, Nick Fury and his fellow Howling Commandos exposed Zemo's role in the town's destruction, resulting in Zemo becoming a reviled figure throughout Europe, even amongst his fellow Germans. In an attempt to regain a level of anonymity, Zemo began wearing a reddish-pink hood over his face as he continued to build weapons for the Nazis. His activities ultimately drew the attention of Captain America, resulting in a confrontation just as Heinrich was ready to unveil his newest scientific breakthrough: Adhesive X, an extremely strong adhesive that could not be dissolved or removed by any known process at the time (only after the war, the adhesive-using villain Paste-Pot Pete found a way to neutralize it).
When Captain America confronted Zemo, to destroy his limited supply of Adhesive X so that the Nazis could not use it against Allied troops, Captain America threw his shield to release the adhesive from its vat, onto the ground.
However, Zemo was standing right next to the vat containing the chemical, which poured over his hooded face. The adhesive quickly seeped inside and permanently attached the hood to Heinrich's flesh, preventing Zemo from ever removing his hood.Though Zemo could still see through the eye holes of the hood, as well as hear, breathe, and speak through the thin fabric of the cloth that made up the hood, Zemo could no longer eat normally (due to the hood having no mouth hole) and had to be fed intravenously. Heinrich Zemo quickly recovered but having his hood permanently attached to his face drove the Nazi scientist insane. Adopting a new costume to go along with his new hooded face, Zemo went from becoming a normal, if not infamous, Nazi scientist to become an active field agent for the Third Reich, leading German troops into combat and espionage missions. His reputation in combat quickly grew and was rivaled only by the Red Skull; the two quickly became rivals, united only in their hatred for Captain America When it became apparent that the Nazis would lose the war, the Skull sent Zemo to London to steal an experimental airplane. At this point the plane would do them no good, but the Skull made sure this knowledge was leaked to Captain America and his young sidekick Bucky so as to ensure that Zemo would be caught, ridding him of his rival once and for all. Captain America would not learn of Zemo's scheme for several weeks, by which time he would defeat Red Skull for the final time during World War II, burying Skull alive in a state of suspended animation. By the time that Captain America learned of Zemo's plot, it was too late and both Captain America and his sidekick Bucky were taken prisoner by Zemo. Zemo tied the two heroes to the experimental plane, which was now booby-trapped to explode, and launched to their deaths. Captain America fell from the plane as it exploded, and Bucky was apparently killed. Captain America landed in the Arctic Ocean and was frozen in ice for decades until recovered by the recently-formed Avengers. As decades passed, Captain America was ultimately revived by the Avengers, causing Zemo to renew his rivalry with the Captain, after finding out about Cap's revival from a newspaper his pilot brought him, as he brought him supplies and news annually in exchange for gold. Heinrich formed the Masters of Evil to serve as a villainous counterpart to the Avengers; the other founding members included the original villainous Black Knight, the Melter, and the Radioactive Man, who were gathered by his pilot. He tried to have Adhesive X spread over New York, but the Teen Brigade seized Zemo's pilot, preventing him from speaking then tied him up to stop him causing trouble. They switched the adhesive with remover made by Paste-Pot Pete. Zemo used his sceptre's hypno-ray on the Teen Brigade, placing them under his control. He then battled Captain America using combat skills he had gained, but Captain America began to beat him. However the pilot freed himself from his bonds and shot at Captain America from behind. Captain America heard the sound and dodged the bullet, though his skull was grazed. Giant-Man was able to stop the pilot from killing Captain America and captured him. Though Zemo was tricked into opening a container of tear gas while in his helicopter, he escaped back to South America. He was later joined by the Enchantress and the Executioner, who had been exiled to Earth from Asgard by Odin. The Enchantress hypnotized Thor into attacking the Avengers, while the Executioner had disguised himself as a former ally of Zemo and lured Captain America to South America to fight Zemo, but Iron Man broke him out of his trance, and the Masters of Evil were sent to another dimension by Thor. However two issues later the Enchantress used her magic to return them to Earth. Later Zemo created the superstrong Wonder Man with his ionic ray, and told him he would die within a week unless given an antidote which he possessed, and Wonder Man was able to capture the Wasp and lead the group into a trap, and they were defeated. Wonder Man however sacrificed himself to save the Avengers. In his final battle with Captain America, Zemo lured Captain America to his jungle fortress by kidnapping Avengers ally Rick Jones using an attractor ray. His Masters of Evil were broken out of prison and attacked the Avengers, forcing Captain America to go on alone. Zemo raised a glass cage containing Rick out of the ground as Captain America fired at his men, hoping Captain America would kill Rick, but the gunfire only broke open the cage. Zemo tried attacking with his men, but Captain America was able to use a rockslide caused by his shield to block them. In the ensuing battle, Captain America's shield deflected the sun's rays, causing Zemo to shoot blindly. His ray gun's shot hit a rock, starting an avalanche that killed him, and Captain America felt that Bucky's death had finally been avenged.During Hercules' journey to the underworld, Zemo was seen in Erebus, gambling for his resurrection

Ben Reilly (Scarlet Spider)
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/6/5/12650473/225853472.jpg?187)
Ben Reilly was the first successful clone of Peter Parker created by the
Jackal, as the first clone, Kaine, had suffered from clone degeneration which
made him become unstable. Through arcane science, Ben is imprinted with Peter's memories and in their first encounter believed himself to be the original. After Peter Parker was captured by the Jackal, both Parker and Reilly found themselves in Spider-Man costumes at Shea Stadium, and initially fought each other believing the other was the imposter. When realizing the stakes, they decided to team up in an attempt to save the Gwen Stacy clone and a captured Ned Leeds. In the process, the clone appeared to be killed in the explosion, and Parker, fearful of the consequences of a second body of "Peter Parker" turning up while he was still alive, dropped Reilly's body in a smokestack. Ben apparently survived and escaped from the smokestack. When he witnessed Parker and Mary Jane Watson in an embrace, Ben decided to embark on a nomadic life as if no one knew his existence. He dubbed himself the alias "Ben Reilly", using his Uncle Ben's first name and his Aunt May's maiden name, Ben Parker and May Reilly respectively. He unnoticeably took some old clothes Parker had intended to donate to charity, and he left New York deeply depressed.Stricken with influenza, Ben meets Seward Trainer, a scientist secretly blackmailed by agents of the Green Goblin into keeping track of him. Trainer helps Reilly get back on his feet. Reilly comes to see Trainer as a father figure, and he trusts him completely, having helped Reilly survive his aimless wanderings around by providing Ben with forged credentials allowing him to find work for a few months at a time, Ben subsequently moving on just before people can examine the references closely enough to learn that they are faked. During this time, Reilly is hunted by a failed clone of Peter Parker named Kaine, who believed Reilly to be the real Peter Parker and hated him for being flawless, although initially even he wasn't sure why he was stalking Reilly other than possibly out of a desire to see him suffer. He also finds love with a college student named Janine Godbe, who later reveals that her true identity is Elizabeth Tyne, a fugitive who killed her father after enduring sexual abuses from him since childhood.Although he spent some time living with Janine, she eventually apparentlycommitted suicide out of guilt at her past crimes, leaving Reilly to be constantly followed by Kaine, who had now vowed to deny Reilly happiness for as long as he could.Besides fighting Kaine, Reilly would sporadically engage in heroics; although he dislikes playing the hero as it reminds him of the life as Peter Parker, he finds himself unable to ignore his spider-sense when it went off with sufficient force. During a particularly bleak period of his life, Reilly spent time working meaningless jobs and allowing himself to be regarded as mentally handicapped rather than interact with others, but after his spider-sense sent him a particularly intense signal that prompted him to save a family from being killed during a robbery, he accepted that he couldn't give in to despair and had to at least try to make a difference when he could. Following this, he briefly lived in Italy and worked as an English teacher, but was forced to leave after a Mafia boss investigated Reilly's past after his daughter expressed an interest in him, learning about the gaps in his records and forcing him to leave the city due to the potential danger of the unanswered questions he posed. It would be revealed later that he had fought the mystical villain D'Spayre and a psychopathic showman named Wild-Whip during his time on the road.

Ben Parker
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/6/5/12650473/254932856.jpg?169)
Ben Parker was born in Brooklyn, New York. He trained to be a military police officer. He spent time as a singer in a band. He had known his future wife May Reilly since their high school days, but she in turn was naively interested in a boy who was involved in criminal activities. When he came to her one night and proposed to her on the spot, Ben was there to expose him as a murderer, and to comfort the heart-broken May when the boy was arrested. Their relationship evolved into love, and they enjoyed a happily married life. When Ben's younger brother Richard Parker and his wife Mary were killed in a plane crash, Ben and May took in their orphaned son Peter and raised him as their own.Ben was very protective of Peter, going as far as fighting some of the bullies that tormented young Parker. Peter became friends with Charlie Weiderman in high school, a teen even more unpopular than he was. However, Charlie often provoked the trouble with the other teens. One day, he was chased to the Parker home by a group of bullies, led by Flash Thompson and Ben intervened. Ben told them that if they wanted Charlie, they would have to go through him. Flash tried to, but was surprised by Ben's army training. As soon as the bullies were gone,
he told the boy that he was not welcome at the house or with Peter because of his provoking the bullies. In high school, a radioactive spider bite gave Peter superhuman powers. Creating the costumed identity of Spider-Man for himself, Peter sought first to exploit his newfound powers as a masked wrestler and then as a television star. Coming from a television appearance, Spider-Man saw a burglar being chased by a security guard. The guard called for Spider-Man to stop the thief, but the nascent Spidey refused on the grounds that catching criminals was not his job. The robber got away. When Peter later returned home, he was informed that his beloved Uncle Ben had been killed by a burglar. Outraged, he donned his Spider-Man costume and captured the man only to realize to his horror that it was the same burglar whom he could have effortlessly captured earlier at the studio. As a result, Peter
considered himself morally responsible for Ben's death and resolved to fight crime as a superhero — realizing that with great power comes great responsibility — and vowing never to let another innocent person come to harm if
he could help it.The burglar had gone to the Parker residence to look for a stash of money that had been hidden in the house years earlier by mobsters (unaware that the money had already been devoured by silverfish). Ben had confronted the burglar, who panicked and shot him. Telling May that he loved her, Ben died in her arms.May later revealed that she felt responsible for the tragedy, as she and Ben had argued a little while before the burglar arrived.
She felt that if they had not had the argument, Ben would not have been where he was when confronting the burglar.Ben Parker's death was truly avenged when the burglar returned for the money once more, threatening Aunt May. The burglar died from a heart attack upon beholding his old nemesis Spider-Man once again and learning that Spider-Man and Peter Parker were one and the same person. In Amazing Spider-Man Family #7, May tells Peter of her memory stories, when she meets Ben.Ben briefly appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #500; after Spider-Man
played a vital role in preventing the resurrection of Dormammu, an unidentified higher power provided Doctor Strange with a small box that he felt he had to give to Spider-Man as a reward for his role in events. When Peter opened
the box on the roof of his apartment building, it contained a note saying "You have five minutes. Spend them as you will", followed by Ben appearing on the roof. It was revealed that this Ben, whatever he was, remembered being out for the walk that resulted in him getting shot but nothing afterwards, although he concluded that the events leading to him being on that roof were not important. In their talk Ben said that the only thing that would disappoint him about Peter is if Peter ever settled for less because he was afraid of reaching for more. This helps Peter to see that he had a good life for all its hardships, and assures Peter that his uncle is proud of him.During the Dark Reign storyline, Uncle Ben made an appearance in the Underworld while Hercules was attending the trial of Zeus, directing Amadeus Cho as he attempted to find his parents in the afterlife

Betty Brant
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/6/5/12650473/633027679.jpg)
Betty Brant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother had
originally been the "girl Friday" of Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson, and Betty took the position after her mother's death. Peter Parker (secretly Spider-Man) and she were attracted to each other because Betty wanted a normal, ordinary man, and they were romantically linked. However, her brother was accidentally killed during a fight with Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus, and she blamed Spider-Man. Later she forgave Spider-Man when she realized he was trying to protect them.Betty Brant, not Gwen Stacy, was Peter Parker's very first love—in issue #142 page 17 Peter tells Mary Jane Watson that Betty was his first. A year later (after their relationship), Betty broke up with Peter due to his inability to commit time to her—the two going on to develop a more sibling-esque relationship—and she eventually married Bugle reporter Ned Leeds. However the marriage proved turbulent as Ned was often posted overseas. When he was stationed in Paris she found the life impossible and left Ned
to return to New York. She turned to Peter Parker once more but Ned followed her
home and she was caught between the two men. Peter regretted getting involved
with Betty again and allowed the affair to break abruptly, driving her back into the arms of Ned.Later on in the series, it became clear that Ned Leeds was in fact the villain Hobgoblin, although it later turned out that he was a pawn of the real Hobgoblin. As Leeds became more hostile, Betty drifted into the arms of old friend Flash Thompson. A jealous Leeds framed Thompson as the Hobgoblin after he insulted Hobgoblin in a televised interview, but when the two battled, the Hobgoblin's mask slipped, and Betty discovered that Ned and the Hobgoblin were one and the same. This revelation, coupled with Ned's murder by the Foreigner, sent Brant over the edge into insanity.Betty joined the Students of Love cult, led by the Teacher, before being saved by Flash and Spider-Man. Because her house had been sold during her time with the cult, Betty stayed with Flash for a time. During this, the demonic events of Inferno happened, overwhelming much of New York City. Betty and Flash were attacked by demonic duplicates of Spider-Man and Ned Leeds. Betty overcame physical and psychological barriers and succeeded in destroying the monsters.Flash and Betty drifted apart as Betty's recovery continued. She rejoined the staff of the Daily Bugle as an investigative reporter whose newfound courageous assertiveness and investigative skill impressed her colleagues. She finally cleared Ned's name when she revealed that Roderick Kingsley was the real Hobgoblin. She remains a recurring character in the Spider-Man comics.
Currently, she has met up with one of Peter's old college friends, Debra Whitman, during a book signing event for Debra's new book Two-Faced.The book described her relationship with Peter Parker/Spider-Man, which ended in Debra being the victim. However, when it was later revealed that the book was actually altered by the Bugle's staff to
make Spider-Man look like he ruined Debra's life, Betty secretly leaked information to the Daily Globe, exposing the fraud. Her boss, J. Jonah Jameson, furious with the possible libel suit, now orders Betty to find out who had given the information. She manages to keep her role even after J. Jonah Jameson's heart attack forced his wife to sell the Bugle to Dexter Bennett, who renamed it The DB. As Dexter is trying to sidestep Betty and make her his "Girl Friday" again, Peter Parker drops hints of a fake family relationship between Betty and the deceased actor Marlon Brando, bolstering her position in Bennett's eye as a gossip reporter.Recently, she celebrated her birthday and asked Peter to organize for her friends to come over for a dinner, but due to her work at the new DB, nobody feels like befriending her. Betty is initially furious at Peter, angrily accusing him of ruining her night until he tells her the truth. She is sad, but he reassures her that everyone will forgive her soon. Betty realizes that Peter really is her best friend. Her actions after the DB's destruction is unknown, but she is last seen with having gotten back together with Flash Thompson

Betty Ross
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/6/5/12650473/737041451.jpg?157)
The only daughter of the renowned General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross, Betty spent her formative years firmly under her father's strict supervision. Thunderbolt Ross
had wanted a son, and his disappointment at having a daughter was reflected in the way he raised her. After her mother died during Betty's teenage years, she was sent away to boarding school. After graduating, the introverted young woman returned to her father's side. Thunderbolt Ross was then in charge of a top-secret project to create a new type of weapon involving gamma radiation. The head scientist on the project was Robert Bruce Banner, whom her father detested because he felt Bruce was both a physical and emotional weakling. The General's hatred for the handsome young scientist intensified when he realized Betty was falling in love with him.But their relationship was forever changed when, during the test of his gamma radiation bomb, Bruce, rushing out to the restricted area to rescue a teenager named Rick Jones, was struck by the full force of the detonation and became the Incredible Hulk. With the exception of Jones, who had witnessed his very first transformation into the Hulk, Bruce managed for many years to keep his condition a secret not only from the rest of the world but also from Betty, as this secret also served to alienate her from him. She was then romantically pursued by Major Glenn Talbot, the new aide attached to her father's Hulkbuster task force.Because of his uncontrollable transformations into the Hulk, Bruce's
'disappearances' and sudden 'reappearances' in strange places would lead both General Ross and Major Talbot to suspect that Bruce was not only a traitor to his country but that there was some mysterious connection between him and the Hulk. Eventually, the secret of Bruce's dual identity became public knowledge and he became a hunted fugitive as a result. But thanks to Reed Richards, the leader of The Fantastic Four, Bruce's condition changed so
that he could now control his changes into the Hulk and could maintain his normal personality and intelligence when he was in the Hulk's form and Bruce vowed that, even if his life depended on it, he would never again become the
Hulk. Believing that he could lead a normal life once again, Bruce proposed to Betty, who happily accepted. Reluctantly, General Ross consented to the wedding of Bruce with his daughter, which was to be held in the house in which she had been born. However, during the ceremony, just before Bruce and Betty could be pronounced husband and wife, the Hulk's archenemy the Leader, seeking vengeance, fired radiation at Bruce that not only transformed him into the Hulk but returned the creature to his previous savage condition. When General Ross was seriously injured when the Hulk ran amok and tore the house apart while battling the Rhino, who had also crashed the wedding, and hopes for the wedding to occur were no more, Glenn Talbot vowed to a heartbroken Betty that the Hulk would pay
with his very life if her father dies.Bruce once again became a hunted fugitive and his transformations and rampages continued to create a rift between him and Betty. Believing Bruce to be lost forever to her as a potential husband, not only because of the Hulk, but because she believed that Bruce instead loved a female green-skinned alien
princess from a Sub-Atomic world named Jarella, Betty married Glenn Talbot, delighting her father. Talbot tried desperately to keep her away from both Bruce and the Hulk all the while. While Betty and Talbot were on their honeymoon, her father continued his global pursuit of the Hulk, only to be captured by the Soviet scientist known as the Gremlin and sent to a Soviet prison. Talbot joined a mission to rescue Ross and was successful in rescuing his father-in-law, but Talbot himself was captured in the process. Ross and the other Americans on the mission incorrectly believed that Talbot had been killed. When Betty learned of her husband's supposed death, she suffered a nervous breakdown. During this time she was transformed by the villainous MODOK into a gamma-empowered flying menace known as the Harpy. In this form, she was an insane green creature with a woman's heand arms, but the wings and body of a giant bird of prey. She could fly and fire energy blasts. As the Harpy, Betty battled the Hulk and nearly killed him. Bruce managed to reverse Betty's condition and she was returned to normal.Unknown to Betty, her father and everyone else, Talbot was still alive and being held prisoner by the Gremlin at Bitterfrost, a top secret Soviet
installation in Siberia. A man named Gregori Kronski was subjected to surgery that made him a double of Talbot. The Gremlin used his Psiclone device to imprint the memories and personality of Talbot in Kronski's mind, and those of Kronski's in Talbot's. Kronski was then sent to the United States, claiming to be an escaped Talbot. However, a bomb was concealed within Kronski's body. Gremlin's plan was to use the bomb to assassinate the President of the United
States when the latter came to visit Gamma Base, where Talbot was stationed. Colonel Jack D. Armbruster saved the President's life, but both Armbruster and Kronski were killed when the bomb exploded. The real Talbot was eventually later rescued by General Ross, Clay Quartermain and the Hulk. She was eventually reunited with Bruce, but soon afterward the Hulk seemingly perished in a tremendous explosion at Gammatown. Believing Bruce and the Hulk dead, Betty left for New York City, where she eventually began training to become a nun. Betty spent some months in a convent to recover from the ordeal, but eventually reunites with Bruce. They spent years living together as fugitives until the Hulk's enemy Abomination used his own blood to poison Betty, which would appear to be the work of the Hulk himself (due to the high levels of gamma radiation present in both of their bodies). Betty was placed in cryogenic suspension by her father. In a later retconned storyarc Betty was seemingly revived by the Leader; underwent surgery which considerably altered her appearance; was granted superhuman strength; and for a time aided her fugitive husband as his shadowy contact, Mr. Blue. The "Tempest Fugit" story arc explains her resurrection as a reality-distorting hallucination created by Nightmare, and also introduces Betty's daughter Daydream, supposedly magically conceived when the entity raped her in her sleep.

Big Bertha

Not a lot is known of Bertha's life before she responded to Mr. Immortal's advertisement for a hero team, the
team would become the Great Lakes Avengers. It was revealed in the G.L.A.
mini-series that Ashley is in fact a mutant.
When not using her powers, Ashley is a proverbial 'big fish in a small pond',
being the most famous fashion model in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her hometown. Although offers have
come her way numerous times for more prospective opportunities, she has declined
them all, choosing to stay in Milwaukee with the team she considers family.
Bertha was with the rest of the Great Lakes Avengers when the team first
encountered Hawkeye and Mockingbird.[1] With
the team, she then assisted Hawkeye and the West Coast Avengers against "That Which Endures."[2] They
also assisted Mockingbird in a holding action against Terminus.[3]
